Urban Armor Gear was founded in 2012 in Orange County, California.
Tired of the corporate world and unimpressed with the case offerings of the time, the three founders came together and decided to create an iPhone capable of providing unrivaled protection for their phones in even the toughest situations.
Inspired by this shape, UAG created its own, now recognizable version of the pattern, evoking the military reliability that has come to define UAG products over time. UAG is the first major case manufacturer to to achieve certification under U.S. military standards MIL-STD 810G 516.6.
The first iPhone case designed by UAG for the iPhone 4 featured UAG’s signature pattern, inspired by army canisters. These canisters first gained popularity during World War II; they were made from stamped steel to add rigidity and strength while remaining lightweight for transporting various liquids, water, and lubricants to troops.
